Rolls Royce Chrome trim wrap and repair services

Unbelievably the chrome finish trims on the new Rolls Royce models (Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Drophead, etc) suffer terribly from corrosion. These Rolls Royce chrome trims usually surround the windows and run down the sides of the car and along the bonnet. Normally (on classic Rolls Royces) these chrome trims are made from stainless steel and so do not corrode, they may tarnish over a long time, but overall they can be buffed up back to a lovely shiny chrome finish. But since BMW took over production of Rolls Royce models and started to produce the Phantom in 2003 the shiny stainless steel chrome trims have been replaced with an inferior version. To save on weight and/or cost the newer Rolls Royce models have the exterior trims made from a combination of aluminium, brass, plastic, zinc and chrome plating. This change on paper works out well, the new terms are weigh less and can be produced cheaper. However over long term use and especially on cars living in damper climates (UK) the chrome trims can become susceptible to corrosion. Although the aluminium and chrome plating cannot corrode, the brass hidden within the trim parts can corrode and overtime moisture can get to the brass and the corrosion process can happen. This is what is happening on a lot of Rolls Royce Phantoms that are reaching the 10+ years age range, this is what is the route cause of the issue is and the Rolls Royce Phantom parts are corroding forth inside, pushing the chrome plating outwards, producing a bubbled effect that over time results in the chrome finish cracking, appearing pitted and peeling off.

What can we do to fix the corroded / rusted Rolls Royce chrome trim?

Over the years we have often fixed this issue for our clients by offering to smooth off the bubbling on the chrome trims, and then wrapping them in gloss of matte black to give the Rolls Royce Phantom a murdered out / blacked out look that is very popular. But on the odd occasion we get a customer who just wants the Rolls Royce trims to look like they should, just a simple high gloss chrome finish. If this is required we can also offer our chrome wrapping services, once our chrome wrap vinyls have been applied to a smoothed over piece of Rolls Royce trim they can produce a very good finish. The difference between an original chrome plated Rolls Royce trim and a chrome wrapped piece of trim is very minimal and suitable for the majority of Rolls Royce owners who want the chrome finish correcting.

But why not just replace the corroded / pitted / rusted Rolls Royce trim parts?

The simplest solution if you own a Rolls Royce for the issue of corrode chrome trim, is to order replacement parts from Rolls Royce. The problem with this however is that replacement parts for the trims are massively expensive. A full set of trims for the Rolls Royce Phantom including door handles, side trims, window surrounds and bonnet trims come in at around £10,000. Compare that to our cost for removing the corrosion and wrapping in high gloss silver chrome (around £1750), we can offer a massive saving overall. And now that prices of the Rolls Royce Phantom have come down to around £90,000, spending £10,000+ on replacement chrome trims isn't a realistic option.
